{"id":172,"date":"2014-08-19T04:06:44","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T02:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/31ppp.de\/julia-hufnagl\/?p=172"},"modified":"2014-08-19T04:13:57","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T02:13:57","slug":"homestaytour-2-chicago-illinois","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/31ppp.de\/julia-hufnagl\/2014\/08\/19\/homestaytour-2-chicago-illinois\/","title":{"rendered":"Homestaytour #2 &#8211; Chicago, Illinois"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chicago, <em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>Windy City<\/em>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Bei dem zweiten Stopp meiner Homestaytour erwartete mich einmal eine etwas andere Gastfamilie \u2013 oder besser gesagt nur ein Host Dad namens Sam, der vor ein paar Jahren selbst beim PPP (oder wie es auf amerikanischer Seite hei\u00dft: CBYX) mitgemacht und ein Jahr in Deutschland gelebt hat. Da dieser aber am Mittwoch, also dem Tag unserer Ankunft, arbeiten und uns somit nicht abholen konnte, empfing Klaudia Bene und mich am Bahnhof in Chicago. Klaudia kommt ebenfalls aus Deutschland und wohnt nun seit November in den USA. Sie ist seitdem eine gute Freundin von Sam und hatte zuf\u00e4llig gerade Besuch von ihrem deutschen Freund Alex und dessen Freundin Caroline, die beide in New Orleans wohnen. Wie ihr seht, f\u00fchlten wir uns also fast wie zu Hause und mussten die meiste Zeit nicht mal Englisch reden (<strong>fast <\/strong>schreibe ich, da Klaudia, Alex und Bene aus Schleswig-Holstein kommen &#8211; ich h\u00f6rte also tagt\u00e4glich Hochdeutsch statt Bayrisch und es wurden statt Deutsch-Amerikanische Differenzen Unterschiede zwischen Nord- und S\u00fcddeutschland festgestellt). Nachdem wir unser ganzes Gep\u00e4ck drei Stockwerke zu Sams Wohnung hoch geschleppt hatten, ging es als erste Station zu Jimmy John\u2019s, wo es laut Klaudia die besten Sandwiches \u00fcberhaupt gibt. auf die Skyline hat.<\/p>\n<p>Zum Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck gab es am n\u00e4chsten Morgen Charlotte (eine Art Tiramisu mit Fr\u00fcchten) selbstgemacht von Sam \u2013 der ist n\u00e4mlich Manager in einem Restaurant, weswegen er auch immer die besten Tipps f\u00fcr Essenslokale parat hatte. Au\u00dferdem fand am Samstag und Sonntag die ber\u00fchmte Air and Water Show in Chicago statt, die man von den Str\u00e4nden am Lake Michigan gut verfolgen kann. Am Freitag probierte ich dann nat\u00fcrlich noch die bekannte \u201eChicago-Pizza\u201c, die man sich ungef\u00e4hr als eine Mischung aus Pizza und Quiche vorstellen kann. Am Samstagabend ergriffen wir die M\u00f6glichkeit, uns ein kostenloses Klassik-Konzert im Millennium Park anzusehen \u2013 die Bilder seht ihr wieder alle in der Galerie. Und am Sonntag, unserem letzten Tag in Chicago, gingen wir morgens mit Klaudia zu dem Mexican Market, wo man laut ihr das authentischste mexikanische Essen probieren kann. Au\u00dferdem gibt es hier (h\u00f6chstwahrscheinlich gef\u00e4lschte) Markentaschen und -sonnenbrillen, Klamotten, Schuhe, Elektroger\u00e4te und alle m\u00f6glichen anderen Dinge zu sehr g\u00fcnstigen Preisen. Die Kellner in den Restaurants leben vom Trinkgeld, was man auch wirklich merkt, da man meistens viel freundlicher bedient wird. Au\u00dferdem gew\u00f6hnungsbed\u00fcrftig ist, dass man das Wasser aus der Leitung nicht einfach trinken kann, sondern sich immer stilles Wasser kaufen muss (Mineralwasser mit Kohlens\u00e4ure gibt es hier sowieso LEIDER so gut wie gar nicht). Es gibt zwar einige Wasserspender am Flughafen oder an anderen \u00f6ffentlichen Orten, das Wasser daraus schmeckt aber auch h\u00e4ufig nach Chlor. Daf\u00fcr bekommt man in Restaurants eigentlich immer selbstverst\u00e4ndlich einen Krug oder ein Glas mit stillem Wasser, das man nicht bezahlen muss \u2013 nat\u00fcrlich mit vieeeelen Eisw\u00fcrfeln, die Amis wollen ja alles lieber zu kalt als zu warm (f\u00fcr meinen Geschmack ZU kalt!). \u00dcbrigens wei\u00df ich nun auch die U-Bahnen in Deutschland wieder mehr zu sch\u00e4tzen, in Chicago sind diese n\u00e4mlich derma\u00dfen laut, dass man kein Wort mehr versteht, wenn sie in die Station fahren. Und auch in der U-Bahn muss man seine Stimme ziemlich heben, um wenigstens einigerma\u00dfen verstanden zu werden.<\/p>\n<p>Soweit also zu meiner Zeit in Chicago \u2013 ihr werdet bald wieder von meinen Erlebnissen an dem letzten Stopp vor meiner Ankunft in Mt.
